Greater Phoenix Sports Kicked-off Their Summer “All Sports Camp” Last Week
Phoenix, Ariz. – Greater Phoenix Sports conducted the first session of their “All Sports Camp” on June 3rd in the gym at Desert Arroyo Gym located at 33401 North 56th Street in Cave Creek.
Boys and girls in grades 6 through 8 participated in camp for the opportunity to have fun while developing skills in various individual and team sports including Basketball, Dodgeball, Kick Ball, Soccer, Football, Whiffle Ball and Frisbee.
“We broke a lot of Whiffle Balls” said Coach James, “The kids had a blast but I need a lot more work on my curveball”.
Teamwork and sportsmanship were emphasized throughout the week as campers were introduced to the skills and techniques required for each sport.
“My favorite activity was "Free For All" Dodgeball but I learned the most during the football session where they taught us different routes including out, in, chair, post, flag, and go,” said Chandler, age 13.
Session two of “All Sports Camp” begins June 10 for boys and girls entering grades 3 through 5. Registration is now open, for more information email GreaterPhoenixSports@gmail.com.
Greater Phoenix Competitive Basketball
The Greater Phoenix Youth Competitive Basketball League will kick off games in September 2013 and is designed for experienced club level teams as well as new and developmental caliber teams looking to play competitive basketball in the Greater Phoenix area. For the Fall 2013 season all games will be played in the North Phoenix, Central Phoenix or East Phoenix locations. Games may be played as far North as Anthem and as far East as Gilbert. Our league is set up to provide more games and longer seasons than most other competitive leagues in the Phoenix area. All teams will play 9 games (3 seeding and 6 league) and play in the end of season tournament.
The Fall 2013 season will begin on September 14th. Seeding games will be played on Saturdays in September on the 14th, 21st and 28th. After the seeding process is completed, teams will be placed in age divisions of like talent and play a 6 game regular season. In October, games will be played on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th. In November, games will be played on the 2nd and 9th.
The league tournament for the fall season will be November 16th and 23rd.
The Greater Phoenix Basketball League will be sponsored initially by the Desert Foothills Athletic Club. For the Fall 2013 competitive league, there will be divisions for Boys in the 3rd- 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and High School ages. Girls divisions will be 5th-6th and 7th-8th grades and we hope to expand the girls divisions by the Spring of 2014.
Greater Phoenix Basketball's Vision
Our vision is to focus on providing our youth with the rewarding opportunity of participating in youth sports. We want to provide this opportunity to all players, coaches and parents to develop respect for all aspects of youth basketball including respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and officials. We hope that this participation will develop not only basketball skills but life skills as well. Through participation of youth sports, players will develop skills of teamwork, dedication, discipline, respect, integrity, character, exercise habits and social development that they can carry with them throughout their lifetimes.
